I woke up this bright Saturday morning and everything seemed to indicate it’s the ideal time to do my yoga exercises: I was feeling good, I didn’t have to go to work, I was light-headed and felt like giving myself a treat. So I set @ it immediately. As I started doing the sitting stretching exercises on the carpet, I got a foul smell every now and then. It was unpleasant and unusual.
So I proceeded by elimination: first, I took out the chair cushions and all the pillows to sun them, just like I regularly do. Next, I carefully washed my hair, thinking there was some left over relaxer cream in it after my trip to the hair dressers the previous day. I was already blaming the foul smell on my hair dresser who let an apprentice work on my hair, I was convinced that she didn’t completely wash out the relaxer cream.
After eliminating all these possibilities, I resumed the yoga exercises, but this foul smell just kept on creeping into my nostrils every now and then. It was about time I got more matter-of-fact, it’s neither my hair nor the chairs, what could it be?
It was about time I used a torch to visit all the hidden corners of the house. I began looking under the couch in the living room. Aha! There it was, the rat gum had picked up its victim! Hurray! I pulled out the paper on which the gum was placed, my goodness, I wonder how many days that rat has been lying there. That was the answer I was looking for! Another reason y I was excited is that I bought a powdered milk a few days ago. After opening it and using it just once, a rat ate around the plastic cover and got into the 450g milk container! I had to throw all of it away! With the rat gone, I won't have to experience that anymore!
Lessons learnt:
- Always put the rat gum where you can see it.
- When a foul smell comes in gentle waves, seek until you find, proceed by elimination.
